JoAnn Bortles scond book covers the basics from baremetal to bodywork to trick basecoats. It's has a heavy focus on bodywork and proper preperation for stressfree paint jobs. One chapter covers molding a frame from start to finish. It even shows the process one bike takes from being a pile of fabricated bare metal through all the bodywork, basepaint, and artwork to becoming an award winning custom bike soon to be featured in American Iron. This book is an encyclopedia of how to prep and paint any kind of motorcycle part. beginners can learn the right and easy way to get great results the first time. Experienced painters can pick up a few new tricks to maybe make bodywork and painting alittle easier. There's even a chapter that runs down in great detail the different kinds of paint, their pros and cons, and how to apply them from polyester to candy apple urethane. The Color Matching chapter will be a big help to any painter. I've made every painting mistake there is, these books bring 26 years of wonderful and just plain horrible painting experinces to good use at last by passing on that knowledge and helping painting experiences to go smoother. Book Customer Comments

"Received your book ....... it is "really good". We really love your "down to earth approach" and attention to "small detail" which really helps to fill in the voids for us. As I mentioned before, I have just started painting and doing airbrush work last year. The info in your book meets me at where I am in addition to explaining some of the "goofs" and "boo boos" I have already made. I especially find the chapters on doing artwork, flames and graphics to be extremely helpful. As a novice, I feel you can never be too detailed when you explain "how to do's". Love the way you describe the process, progress and tips for "what colors to use", etc. We are really looking forward to your next books."

"Hi JoAnn, I recently bought your new book on 'How to Custom Paint Your Motorcycle' as I am looking to change my line of work, having spent far too long working for someone else and not enjoying what I am doing. Your book is excellent and I read it on the train to London and back every day, in fact I am on the second read through at the moment and I keep picking up new things that I didn't take in the first time through. So thank you for stimulating my mind after years of stress at someone else's behest! I know it is not easy, but the future will be in my hands and not someone elses. If I ever go to Sturgis (and it is on my calendar to do one day) I may bump into you and buy you a drink! kind regards"

"I picked up the book over the weekend, as well, and it is really good. Some of the best photos, really showing the details that you only see when you are actually trying to do this stuff. Too many books will show you a few 'in-progress' shots, and the end results, without giving you all of the in between details that make all the difference in understanding how it is really done. Joann explains that she was trying to include things that other books on the subject really don't cover, and I for one think she has done an outstanding job on this book. It's the bikes that we all have seen in the magazines, and it is really neat to see the paint as it was being done - how it was being done! Great work. Great read, too. Interesting stories, details, photos... I'm going to pick this book up often, and use it as inspiration. The chapter on the pin-up mural makes me want to give it a try, rather than make it all seem very intimidating and impossible for the person who might not have the experience, like me! This is the second book by the 'Motorbooks' publisher, on custom paint, that I have bought in the past month. They also have a 'How to Paint Flames' book, which seems really informative, and covers just about everything you would want to do with flames. Again, the photos are really good. This publisher is doing an excellent job on the subject of custom paint, and working with some really good people, like Crazy Horse !!! Joann mentions that there will be other books on the way, and I will be ready to buy those as well. Great work, and you are a wonderful person, Joann! You really bring some insight to the process, and add a lot of information that only experience can bring. Super. It was really refreshing to see what happens when things go wrong, and know that things can go wrong for everybody, not just me...... "

"I got your how to book and I really like the way that you color coded the pages and how well you explain the different steps and how to's. Thank you very much."

Thanks again Smokenjoe, WAshington

"Ok - first impression, this is one in-depth read! And jam-packed! I can easily state that there was NOTHING like it in my library till today - and I've got all the "must have's" for airbrush, custom paint and stripe. Now to go read it word-for-word."

"I just got my copy today too, and there's no need to wonder, Crazy Horse, I doubt anyone will be disappointed. I've skimmed through it and already got many new gems of knowledge. A++ to CH for your attention to detail. You've got a great selection of projects in the book. I like how it's layed out, all the nice photos, and the "Handy Hints" of knowledge sprinkled throughout. This book rates in the top 5 with Kosmoski's and Fraser's volumes. Excellent! CH goes the extra mile and lays out a whole lot of other valuable info from prep to clear. If you've read Kosmoski's "Custom Painting" book then CH's book seems like a combo tome of Kosmoski's and Fraser's. You'll get something out of this book no matter what skill level you're at."

"Great book, guys, theres alot of info in it, lots of great "how tos" with "Big" pictures, you can actually see what she is explaining,....even has alot of "Don't do this" in it, which I thought was cool also....even some history on JoAnns younger years which was fun to read .......great buy......."
